What is a Guardian Home Program?
A Guardian Home is a special partnership where a family raises one of our breeding dogs as their own beloved pet while they remain part of the Golden Puppy Love breeding program. Your dog lives full-time with you, enjoying family life, love, and daily companionship, while we retain breeding rights until the dog is retired. Once their breeding journey is complete, ownership is fully transferred to your family.
What costs are Guardian Families responsible for?
Guardian families are responsible for normal day-to-day expenses such as food, grooming, toys, annual vaccinations, and routine veterinary care. Golden Puppy Love covers all breeding-related expenses including health testing, breeding, pregnancy care, whelping, and spay/neuter costs once the dog retires from the program.
How long does a dog stay in the Guardian Program?
Female dogs remain in the program until they have completed their planned litters, while male dogs typically retire around eight years old. Once retired, the dog is spayed or neutered at our expense and full ownership is officially signed over to the guardian family permanently.
Will my dog have to leave home during the breeding process?
Yes, there will be times when your dog will need to visit us for health testing, breeding appointments, ultrasounds, X-rays, pregnancy care, or whelping. We work closely with our guardian families throughout the process and encourage visits while puppies are being raised until momma is ready to return home.

We believe dogs thrive best in loving homes with individualized attention, socialization, and companionship. This approach also helps us continue ethical breeding practices while preserving the health, temperament, and lineage of our puppies.
What happens when my Guardian Dog retires from the program?
Once your dog has completed their final litter or breeding commitments, Golden Puppy Love will arrange and cover the cost of their spay or neuter procedure. At that time, your original Guardian deposit is also fully returned to you. After retirement, full ownership is officially transferred to your family, and your dog remains 100% yours for the rest of their life — as the beloved family member they’ve always been.
